It’s Curtis Blaydes vs. Alexander Volkov at a UFC Fight Night card at the UFC APEX facility in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, June 20 (6/20/2020). The fight card was originally scheduled to take place in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, on April 9, but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, and relocated to Las Vegas.
UFC Fight Night: Blaydes vs. Volkov will be broadcast on ESPN, and can be streamed live on ESPN Plus, Sling TV, AT&T TV, Hulu with Live TV and other services.
In the main event, American Curtis Blaydes (13-2-0) will face off with his Russian opponent, Alexander Volkov (31-7-0). Blaydes, the No. 3 heavyweight fighter, will be entering the Octagon for the second time this year, and hoping to extend his current win streak to four. Volkov, the No. 7 ranked fighter and former Bellator and M-1 Global heavyweight champion, had his six-fight win streak interrupted after losing to Derrick Lewis at UFC 229, but rebounded with a win against Greg Hardy last November.
One of the hot topics since UFC’s return has been the smaller Octagon used at UFC’s APEX facility. The numbers show a lower finish rate at the smaller Octagon compared to the bigger cage used at events in Jacksonville, Florida.
“The smaller cage favors Blaydes, without a doubt,” said ESPN’s Brett Okamoto. "It’s always going to favor wrestlers. You know what would favor Volkov? A technical, standup battle. It’s much harder to have one of those in a significantly smaller space.'
The main fight card starts at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN and ESPN Plus, with the preliminary bouts at 5 p.m. ET on ESPN and ESPN Plus.
The co-main event is a Featherweight bout between Josh Emmett (15-2-0) and Shane Burgos (13-1-0). This will be Emmett’s first fight since July 2019, and he’s looking to extend his two-fight win streak. Burgos is on a 3-fight win streak, boasting 10 of his 13 by knockout or submission.
